Retirement can be an adjustment if dental health insurance isn’t in place and you need to cover your own expenses out of your retirement income, just as your oral health needs intensify.

In a perfect world, all medical and dental treatment would be free for all Canadians. We would be able to get the treatment we need, we could stay healthy at no cost, and not have to worry about our bank accounts. Unfortunately we’re not quite there yet…
Oral surgery has a rather colourful past. Did you know that during the American Civil War, many injured soldiers were experimented on by oral surgeons? As a result of these experiments, many treatments were developed and innovated. Interestingly, this practice continued during the Korean and Vietnam wars where trauma-related surgeries became modernized.
One of the perks of being self-employed is that you are your own boss. You make your own hours; you set your own rules. Effectively, you are the one calling the shots. Maybe you oversee several employees or perhaps just work alone, but don’t forget that everyone should have a health and dental insurance plan.
When we think about our health, what do we usually think about right away? Our cardiorespiratory systems? Our allergies, or our weight? Usually, when we think of our health we immediately think of specific organs or parts of our bodies that we worry about for the long term, but we tend to forget about our teeth and gums.
Did you know that before modern dentistry, the most common way to deal with a damaged or sore tooth was to just yank it out? If you had a cavity, the tooth was pulled. If you had a toothache, it was pulled. There weren’t any proper anaesthetics in those days, either, so those teeth were often taken out with no pain relief whatsoever!
Did you know that the average dental check-up can cost several hundred dollars? This visit includes a recall exam, several units of scaling, polishing, and bitewing x-rays. It sounds like a lot of money for a fairly short visit, but it’s a typical scenario in just about every province in Canada.
Basic dental services An umbrella term for dental services that generally include exams, x-rays, polishing, scaling, root planing, endodontic services and tooth removal. Bitewing x-rays
When life is running smoothly, we don’t worry about the “what ifs.” But what if you’re eating cereal one day, and your filling breaks? What if you accidentally knock a tooth out? If you have a dental insurance plan, you don’t need to worry.
Have you ever looked over your dental bills and wondered how exactly your insurance plan tabulates everything? It’s tough to imagine how someone prodding your mouth with instruments translates into a line of numbers on a dental claim, but it’s actually very precise.

You have made my day! I don’t think I have ever received such good service from any company before. Thank you so much for sending those reports to me. I plan to submit the info to the government and maybe get a little refund. Every penny counts.

Thank you Kasia for your diligence in notifying me upon approval of my application. I will as stated, out of courtesy, notify Great West Life, that I will not be proceeding with the application with them. I am pleased, as Green Shield was my first choice.
